Seminar – Augmented Reality Music Ensemble (ARME)

Event Date: 7th May 2025
Event Time: 14:0015:30
Price: £0.00

We are pleased to announce MOMH’s collaboration with the Augmented Reality Music Ensemble (ARME) for an engaging seminar on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, from 14:00 to 15:30 at Wolfson College, Oxford.

ARME is an EPSRC-funded project that leverages immersive technologies to transform group music practice. By integrating video capture, computational modelling, and augmented reality, ARME enables musicians to rehearse with avatars that replicate the appearance and interactivity of real ensemble members. Originally designed for string quartets, the project is expanding to accommodate various real-time interactions.

The seminar will delve into the scientific principles and technological innovations underpinning ARME, addressing challenges such as synchronizing humans in both real and virtual spaces. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience live demonstrations, interacting with virtual musicians and adaptive metronomes in real-time.

Speakers:

Dr. Massimiliano Di Luca

• Associate Professor, School of Psychology and School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham

• Leader of the ARME project

Professor Alan Wing

• Professor of Human Movement, University of Birmingham

• Expertise in sensory motor control and touch for perception and action

Dr. Diar Abdlkarim

• Postdoctoral Research Scientist, University of Birmingham

• Specialist in immersive augmented and virtual reality technologies

Evguenni Penksik

• Software Developer, ARME project

• Expertise in virtual and augmented reality, machine learning, and real-time avatar interaction

This event is free and open to all; however, registration is recommended. Please note that registration will close at 10:30 am on 7 May 2025.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exploration of the intersection between music and augmented reality.
