THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
This month the Royal Ballet is in the middle of a run of 19 performances of Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet. The Museum has recently acquired a rare first edition of the 4-hands arrangement, published in 1891, nearly two years after the ballet’s first performance (Maryinski Theatre, St. Petersburg, 15 January 1890) . Although uncredited, the arrangement was made by the 18-year-old Rachmaninov (revised by Tchaikovsky) and was his first published work.
