The season also included first British performances of Boris Godunov, Khovanshchina and Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Maid of Pskov, all starring Chaliapin.

First performed  in London at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, 11 July 1913 (Sir Joseph Beecham’s Grand Season [as above]). The first dance rehearsals for the work had taken place at London’s Aldwych Theatre in February 1913, during a Beecham season at Covent Garden which included the first London performances of Der Rosenkavalier, Petrushka and Nijinsky’s first ballet L’Après-midi d’un faune. The three performances in Paris and the three in London were all that Nijinsky’s Sacre du Printemps received until its attempted reconstruction in 1987.
